Vision Expo West 2015 Highlights

It’s the end of September, and that means another Vision Expo West has come and gone. The event was a home run for the show, which hosted doctors, staff, and vendors from September 16-19 in Las Vegas.

For anyone who wasn’t able to attend (or who got caught up in the glitz of Vegas and missed an event or two), here is a synopsis of the highlights from Vision Expo West 2015!

Opening Party

While education began on the 16th, the conference really kicked off Thursday night as the Bad Habits Eye Docs of Rock brought hours of entertainment and fun to attendees. The event took place upstairs at the Hard Rock Cafe on The Strip. Everyone had a blast dancing, enjoying the views from the balcony, and waiting to see who was the lucky winner of a Fender guitar!VEW 1

Young Professionals Club Lunch

The Young Professionals Club events began on Friday with the annual YPC lunch. This year, the lunch took place at Grimaldi’s in the Palazzo hotel. Members enjoyed time networking with new and old friends over a pizza buffet and drinks in a laid back atmosphere. Everyone left with a smile on their face and a full stomach, and a few members even left with some gift cards! It was a great way to get the day started!

Young Professionals Club Reception

After such a fun lunch, how do you keep the vibe going? With a YPC reception, of course! Kristen Reynolds and her team did a fabulous job with this event, which was held Friday evening at the Double Helix Bar in the Palazzo. Attendees spent the time there catching up with colleagues and friends, enjoying a few drinks, and mingling with new faces. It was so much fun that some of the members stuck around even after the event was officially over!

OD’s on Facebook Party

Also taking place Friday evening, the annual OD’s on FB Party was the largest yet! Dr. Alan Glazier’s well-known Facebook group turned out in huge numbers to relax, enjoy Tao’s Opium Room, and have some fun with fellow OD’s. It was a can’t miss event that anyone attending the show next year should plan to make!

The Party at Vision Expo West

Friday came to an end in Vegas with the biggest party of the conference- The Party at Vision Expo West. Sponsored by Marchon, with help from VSP, Eyefinity, and Altair, this huge gathering was held at the pool at Paris and was complete with beach balls, dancing, and an awesome DJ. It was a great way to spend a night celebrating a fun and successful meeting before getting back to classes and exploring the exhibit hall on Saturday.

The Exhibit Hall

Beyond the networking opportunities, Vision Expo also boasts over five football fields of exhibit hall space, which allows for booths from almost every vendor imaginable. VEW definitely delivered on that claim. If you were looking to purchase optical supplies, both the general floor and the Galleria–which specializes in high-end products–did not disappoint. Outside of eyewear, there was no shortage of medical device, pharmaceutical, and contact lens related vendors, as well as many smaller companies demonstrating up-and-coming products for the eye care world. Attendees could easily spend hours in the Vision Expo West exhibit hall, and I’d highly recommend checking it out in 2016.

Young Professionals Club Crawl

For the YPC, the conference had one more treat in store. Saturday night, twenty dollars gave participants access to an exclusive party bus which took them to multiple Vegas clubs so they could experience the Strip in style. The sold-out event was absolutely a highlight of the conference, and I’m sure next year will bring something even better.

It’s hard to believe Vision Expo West 2015 is already over, but I’m happy to say it was a blast. Before we know it, it will be 2016, and Vision Expo East will be upon us.

So, make your plans to be in New York City April 14-17 now! The NGO and Covalent Careers team will be looking forward to seeing you there!
