I had the opportunity to travel to the 2015 Energeyes National Meeting all-expenses-paid as the winner of last year’s student and new grad essay contest, and it was a tremendous trip that I think everyone should try to experience.
Attending the Energeyes meeting gave me the opportunity to network with like-minded optometrists from all over the country: corporate-affiliated ODs whose passion for their patients and for their chosen modality of practice left me feeling invigorated to make my own practice the best that it could be and armed with the tools and resources to do so once I returned home. I met with vendors who understand the unique dynamics of the corporate-affiliated optometry practice and offer tailored practice-management and clinical solutions for our needs. I learned from several awesome CE lecturers on a wide range of advanced care topics.
I gave a keynote address to the attendees, an awesome line to add to my resume less than a year after graduating. Most of all, I benefited from the insight and wisdom of docs with many years of experience, many of them in a range of optometric practice settings, who were all so welcoming of a new grad and who all had so many pearls to share. That benefit would be hard to replicate in any other setting. Energeyes recognizes the importance of student and recent graduate attendance, so they are again sponsoring an all-expenses-paid trip to their national meeting, this time in Dallas from September 23rd-25th, 2016.
So enter their essay contest, and take a shot! It’s truly an amazing opportunity, and one it would be silly to pass up!
